It’s only been a month or so since his last single, but Jake has resurfaced with another dreamy piece of inquisitive music in the shape of ‘Kintsugi‘.
In what is fast becoming a trademark style, Jake effortlessly blends eastern and western musical influences on an instrumental journey which draws you in and leaves you hypnotised.
The track spends a lot of time shifting from bare moments of reflection to imposing walls of sound, via gradual, careful builds. It reflects his wife’s battle with depression: the silent anxiety, the crushing loneliness, and tiny, gradual steps needed to find the other side.
Musically, ‘Kintsugi‘ is slightly more accessible than previous single ‘Shoganai‘, but it is just as keen to hold back its secrets from you initially. Give it time, give it attention, and you will find a range of clever, intoxicating little moments tucked away to savour.
With more to come from Jake this year, 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for the Watford based artist. With every single, he stretches his muscles and shows us a little more of what he is capable of. Where do those capabilities end? Only he knows.
